Koku Akanbi and the King of Lost Souls

Demon dads. Flaming warriors. Ghostly powers. Welcome back to Olori …

Set in a unique magical world inspired by West African mythology, this is the second book in my unmissable new fantasy adventure series. Perfect for fans of Marvel and Percy Jackson.

This was a delight to read. It was filled with action, adventure and was written in such a descriptive way that I felt I was part of the story. The graphics, design and front cover all really appealed to me and added to the excitement in my opinion. I think this will prove popular within our Library.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I know it will be enjoyed once it makes it to the bookshelf at school in September! I do love a book with a map, and when I opened the first page and that’s what I saw, I knew I would enjoy it!

The story is very well paced and filled with lovable characters. There are many nostalgic references for people of the Yoruba ethnicity. I also personally appreciated that there was a voice given to sickle-cell children that may be struggling with the condition. It's a book which validates the experiences of growing up in the diaspora. Well written, sentimental, humorous and exciting - Koku Akanbi and the Heart of Midnight is a great entry.
